Goldfields Honey is a small family business which has been operating for about 25 years in Castlemaine. We concentrate on producing quality varietal honey most of which is produced from the central goldfields of Victoria although we do travel all over the state if we have to for the survival of our honey bees.

Pollination Services

We offer the pollination of horticultural crops – apples, pears, cherries, stone fruits and almonds. A very interesting fact is that 65% of horticultural and agricultural crops introduced to Australia since European settlement require honeybees for pollination. So you can see honey bees are an essential part of the food chain.

Seasonal Varieties

The main varieties produced this season in the local area are Yellow Box and Red Gum. These are both medium flavoured with a low glycemic index. The Red Gum flowering this season was the best it has been for 15 years. Both these honeys only produce every two years and this is also dependant on weather conditions.

Simple Recipe Idea

For a summer breakfast or brunch mix ricotta cheese or use one of the unripened cheeses available at the Market with honey to taste and pile onto sour dough bread or toast. Top with strawberries or raspberries. A little fresh mint can be sprinkled on top.

Cut Lunch Ideas

Peanut butter and honey; Dates, figs and raisins mixed together with honey and lemon juice; Honey, then grated carrot and a sprinkling of nutmeg.

Packaging

Packaged honey of 250g, 500g, 1kg. 1.5kg and 3kg as well as bulk honey is available. We also specialize in comb honey and creamed honey as well as ‘Energize’ Honey straws (8g) in packs of 10 or boxes of 100.

Carbon Footprint

Goldfields Honey is in the process of working out our carbon footprint. This season has produced low carbon honey as the honey production has been in the local area – less kilometers traveled – less environmental impact. The pollination of local orchards also enhances our sustainability.
